T
his website is an initiative of the Mayor of London's Crime and Disorder Plus Steering Group, this innovative resource was commissioned and has been developed by the From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation in partnership with Working Links. The wider partnership included the participation of a range of young people, community safety professionals and partnerships, community groups, law enforcement agencies, educators, researchers, policy advisors and organisations.

Uanu Seshmi and boys from FBMF
The From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation based in the London Borough of Southwark was founded in 1996 by Decima Francis and Uanu Seshmi, following concern within the community about the number of young black boys being excluded from school and becoming involved with gangs, drugs and violence. FBMF believes that boys in trouble deserve a chance to turn their lives around before it becomes too late. Its ethos is unashamedly and refreshingly moral and spiritual, though non-religious. Its essence is the re-discovery of personal responsibility and the philosophy that it takes a community to raise a child. From this basis Calling the Shots was borne.

Middlesex University, Policy & Practice Resource Group independently evaluated the CTS resource commissioned by GLA and GOL.
CTS was piloted in schools and community groups in the Operation Trident boroughs of Hackney, Haringey, Lambeth, Brent, Southwark and Newham.
